#Mental well being is just as important as physical wellbeing and is seen no differently by health practitioners who practice herbal medicine. As a medical herbalist myself, I recognise how the two are inter-linked. If you suffer from #anxiety, #depression or #stressthat will almost certainly affect your physical health and vice versa.
There is a vast array of #herbs that can support us for these conditions and enable us to regain balance and good health. Some are useful in cases of mild #mentalillness or to prevent it and others can be quite potent. It’s important that you consult a medical herbalist or your physician before embarking on an herbal treatment plan to ensure herb-drug safety. 1. Withania somnifera, or #Ashwagandha is a traditional Ayurvedic herb grown in India. It has amazing #adaptogenic qualities which support your #adrenal glands. It is particularly useful for anyone who is undergoing #chronicstress and requires nourishment and nurturing. It will aid good quality, rejuvenating #sleep and encourage you to eat well. 2. Passiflora incarnata, or #Passionflower is a popular herbal remedy used for insomnia. It is less well known as an #anxiolytic herb used in those that suffer with #panic attacks and episodes of intense worry. It can help calm the nerves and slow down a racing heart. It can be taken in drop doses in tincture form and will act very quickly hence it makes an excellent emergency medicine. 3. Crocus sativa, or #Saffron has been shown to relieve #depression. It’s rich in phytochemicals (plant chemicals) that provide inflammation modulating effects on the brain. The rich carotenoid content supports good eye health too which means that the ‘fog’ that depression sufferers describe will lift and they will be able to literally see their future more clearly. re to edit.
